In Touching Bottom the main character is quite dependant from men but this changes as she develops in the story.

The main character called Kari seems to have a very dependent relationship with men as her father protects her until she gets married and once this happens her husband is the one that takes care of her and protects her.

What is the effect of the first-person narrative?
