Most of the mass in a galaxy is in the form of dark matter, with only a few percentages of that mass visible as stars and nebulae. Supermassive black holes are a common characteristic at the centers of galaxies.
Galaxies can be categorized according to their visual morphology as elliptical, spiral, or irregular. The Milky Way's central black hole or Sagittarius A* has a mass 4 million times greater than the Sun.
