Steroid hormones moves through plasma membrane of a target cell. Once inside the cell, it sticks to intracellular receptors residing in the nucleus which produces an activated hormone-receptor complex. The activated hormone-receptor complex binds to DNA. This activates specific genes, increases proteins production which leads to change in gene expression.
