In assessing why men scored higher on measures of personal control, Helwag - Larson and colleagues suggest that:
1) women are less likely to promote themselves.
2) men may feel they have more control over their futures.
3) women are more likely to be involved in child care.
4) Men are more likely to overestimate their level of control.
Men feel they have more control over their futures because of opportunities they are presented with. In recent studies, it has been shown that men have higher paying salaries, better paying jobs, and more advancement opportunities.
