Langston Hughes is one of the most influential members of the Harlem Renaissance movement. The purpose of this movement, that took place in the US during the 1920's, was a revival of African-American culture. This helped African-Americans to feel a sense of pride in their heritage and resulted in several cultural phenomena that greatly affected the 1920's. This included poetry and books that shaped the ways American view racial injustices in the US. Besides poetry and books, music created by African-American artists also became wildly popular. Thanks to the works of individuals like Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, jazz music exploded onto the scene in the 1920's.
