The senior classes at High School A and High school B planned separate trips to Yellowstone National Park. The senior class at high School A rested and filled 14 vans and 2 buses with 296 students. High School B rented and filled 4 vans and 12 buses with 736 students. Each van and each bus carried the same number of students How many students can a van carry? How man students can a bus carry?

Respuesta :

Equation A: 14x+2y=296
Equation B: 4v+12y=736
From B: y=(736-4x)/12

Substitute y to Equation A:
14x+2[(736-4x)/12]=296

14x+(1472/12)-(8x/12)=296

14x-(8x/12)=296-(1472/12)

(168x-8x)/12=(3552-1472)/12

x=2080/160
x=13  students van can carry

y=[736-4(13)]/12
y=57 students bus can carry
