Using a drug several times a year is not a sign and symptom of addiction. Addiction refers to when someone is is physically and/or psychologically dependent on a substance, and experiences withdrawal effects when attempting to limit or stop the use of a substance. If a person only uses a substance a couple of times a year, he/she is not addicted to it since he/she does not demonstrate withdrawal effects or physical or psychological dependence on the drug. However, options A, C and D, indicate physical and/or psychological dependence on a drug, and thus, can be considered symptoms of addiction.
