A “New York Post” sportswriter is drawing criticism for suggesting a vulgar name change for the Brooklyn Nets because of rapper Jay-Z’s involvement with the team. WOW …. In a column that appeared in Friday’s “Post,” Phil Mushnick pluralized the racially-charged “N-Word” in suggesting the term be used for the recently-rebranded team instead of the Nets. Mushnick offered no apologies for his choice of words in a followup statement addressing the controversy. Instead, he suggested that the criticism be lobbed at the Nets’ hip-hop minority owner for his free use of the “N-Word” in reference to Black men.
Mushnick wrote, “Jay-Z profits from the worst and most sustaining self-enslaving stereotypes of Black-American culture and I’M the racist? Some truths, I guess, are just hard to read, let alone think about.”
