Over the weekend actress/tv talk show host KeKe Palmer and her mother Mrs. Sharon Palmer were the keynote speakers for the first annual Pretty Girl Problems’ Mother Daughter Retreat a day created by Chivon Ferguson to celebrate the wonderful connection between mother and daughter. I had the pleasure of dropping in to see KeKe and Mrs.Palmer share their thoughts on how to have a wonderful mother/daughter relationship.
Atlanta came out to support the afternoon and left feeling totally inspired by the famous mother/daughter duo.
Check out the details below.
The lovely KeKe Palmer was on hand with her mother Mrs. Sharon Palmer for the First Annual Mother Daughter Retreat powered by Chivon Ferguson‘s Pretty Girl Problems at the Mansour Center in Marietta, Georgia a suburb of Atlanta. Pretty Girls Problems was originally created to identify the challenges women and girls face collectively; the non-profit create awesome events to help resolve self-esteem issues and promoting ideals that help girls/women become pretty from the inside out. KeKe Palmer and her mother Sharon got to know Chvion Ferguson while they were touring the country promoting the highly successful “Brotherly Love“. Chivon shared her passion about working with women and girls and her dream to host a Mother/Daughter Retreat in 2015.
Mrs. Sharon told Chivon that they would love to help Pretty Girl Problems and the rest is history. KeKe Palmer is a very busy lady balancing movies, tv, music, and her various out reach projects but she cleared her calendar to speak at the retreat.
KeKe shared with candor and excitement her road to success that was powered by her mother’s commitment to help her reach her goals as a young girl. Mrs. Sharon Palmer noticed something special in her young KeKe and helped her reach for her dreams. Mrs. Sharon (a successful actress) worked hard to help KeKe master her talent and craft by coaching her daughter, traveling with her daughter, and becoming acknowledgeable about the industry to help her daughter reach success. KeKe shared with delight that her mother and father sacraficed so much for her to have this life. KeKe urged the young girls in attendance to listen to their moms and always show them respect. KeKe also urged the mothers in attendance to be conscious of their daughters and their dreams.
KeKe graciously answered questions from the young girls in attendance. Questions varied from “How does she handle not getting jobs to can I take a picture with you?” KeKe answered each question with real advice and fun. KeKe shared that she loves reading books and gaining knowledge. She told the girls to never let anything stand in the way of their dreams. She shared that so many people thought she was to young to host a talk show and that she just had to show them she could do it. KeKe Palmer is the voice of young America and she shows us all that a young woman can have style, class, and a great sense of HUSTLE.
KeKe used her time in Atlanta to speak at the Atlanta Urban League luncheon and getting some work done in the studio. KeKe ended the afternoon by taking photos and hugging her young fans. All of the mothers and daughters in attendance were energized to continue to pursue their dreams, work harder, and have faith in GOD because those steps will ultimately lead to success.
It was truly an inspiring afternoon and I am so glad I got the chance to catch up with KeKe and her mama! Also in attendance was the lovely Brandi Harvey who did a dynamic session on how to chase your dreams for the young girls. Actor Matt Cook of Tyler Perry’s “For Better or Worse” dropped by to show the mothers some love and much respect. The founder of The White Dress Project Tanika Gray Valbrun hosted a seminar for the mothers on how to raise a healthy and well-adjusted daughter.
The girls had an amazing time playing games, learning tips on how to be good girls, and the selfie party was icing on the cake. Chivon did a great job with her team of helpers including Theory Communications, Zaxbys, and various cake and community sponsors.
