There is still no word on what caused the unexpected death of R&B singer Teena Marie this week. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office says Marie, born Mary Christine Brockert, showed no signs of trauma, but added that toxicology tests were still pending. A cause of death has been deferred. The 54-year-old singer was found in her Pasadena home by her daughter on Sunday. According to the coroner’s office, Marie was reported dead at 3:30 pm local time. No illegal drugs were found in her home. A four-time Grammy nominee, Teena Marie rose to fame as a protegé of late funk legend Rick James with whom she collaborated on the soulful ballad “Fire and Desire.” Marie’s 1984 hit “Lovergirl” thrust her into the spotlight as a solo artist. She became known as the “Ivory Queen Of Soul.”
