Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, Rihanna
Fresh off grabbing another GRAMMY, singer Rihanna is thrilled about her professional accomplishments, but now she is focusing on using her celebrity on a much more notable cause. This 25-year-old pop star invaded Good Morning America, promoting her involvement with MAC Cosmetics AIDS Fund.
With a goal of raising 40 million dollars with the Viva Glam Rihanna campaign, she wants the public and her #RihannaNavy fans to be educated about just how serious disease:
It’s the youth, they’re a little more naive to the reality of the disease which saddens me. They don’t realize how big it really it is…how much of an epidemic it is. HIV and AIDS had been around for as long as I’ve been alive….It’s really scary. It’s around.
I’m now extending my role with MAC, from creative partner to philanthropic partner with the Viva Glam campaign….Buying the lipstick really is the most important part of this because 100% of the cost goes to the MAC AIDS fund.
Her partnership with the popular cosmetic brand speaks to how accepting they are:
What I really love about MAC as a brand is they don’t judge. They’re not here to say ‘Be perfect’. They want you to have fun…I love having fun, but you hafta be responsible; you hafta be safe. Protect yourself. You hafta look out for yourself. No body else can do that for you. It’s a real disease. If we can just protect ourselves…
During her segment, she also shared how the label ‘icon’ makes her proud, but pressured:
Icon, that’s such a big title..Now the pressures on. I hafta live up to that. I hafta keep my fans proud.
