Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, and Tyler Perry are just a few of the celebs that came out to help raise raise over $2 million Russell Simmons’s 13th Annual ‘Art for Life’ charity event on Saturday.
Simmons hosted his annual Art for Life fundraiser at his East Hampton, New York home and dozens of celebrities showed up to support of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, which gives underprivileged children better access to arts programs.
This yearâ€™s event honored recording artists Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, Betsy Z. Cohen (Bancorp Inc.), Tamia and Grant Hill (The Grant Hill Foundation), and Marc J. Leder (Sun Capital Partners Inc.). The main event was hosted by CNNâ€™s Soledad Oâ€™Brien hosted the evening, while Star Jones led the Rush Kids Auction. Musical performances included Anita Baker, Salt-N-Pepa, Melanie Fiona and Diggy Simmons.
Some of the top donators were Tyler Perry, who graciously donated $100,000, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Patrice Motsepe with $150,000, Ron Pearlman and Alan Patricoff. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Congressman Greg Meeks, Gov. David Paterson and NY State Senator Malcolm Smith were also generous with their donations.
Spotted on the red carpet were Tika Sumpter, Rocsi Diaz, and of course, the entire Simmons family including Angela, Diggy and Rev Run
With tables beginning at $15,000, Proceeds from ART FOR LIFE will go to the Foundationâ€™s arts education and gallery programs, which directly serve over 2,300 students each year.
