It’s hard to believe that in 2013 a 7-year-old child can be yanked out of school because of the style of her hair, but it happened.

Deborah Brown Community School is a charter school in Tulsa, Oklahoma with a very strict dress code, and Tiana was left in tears after officials told her father was told that Tiana had to go home because her dreds did not look presentable.

Although this may seem a bit extreme, hairstyles that the school deem unacceptable are in the school’s dress code and dreds are on the list. It states :

“hairstyles such as dreadlocks, afros, mohawks, and other faddish styles are unacceptable.”
