For weeks we have been telling you that it was going to happen, and today reports confirmed MiMi will be added to the show.  Mariah Carey says she’s excited to be joining “American Idol.” The five-time Grammy Award winner has been announced as the next major star to join the judges’ panel on the hit Fox singing competition. During a call to members of the Television Critics Association Monday, the singer said everything “just happened” really quickly, adding, “I can’t wait to get started.”

Fox’s president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell called Carey “the real deal,” citing her success as “one of the best-selling artists and performers on the planet and one of the world’s most gifted vocalists.” He said, “It’s the dream of almost everyone who auditions for ‘Idol’ to sing like Mariah, and we couldn’t be happier to have her be part of the show.”
