In other news Frank is riding the wave of publicity, generated by a very personal admission, all the way up the album charts. The rising R&B star recently revealed that his first love was a man. He is now seeing a second place debut on the Billboard 200 album chart with his major label debut “Channel Orange.” The set sold 131-thousand copies in its first week of release, controversially through iTunes, to land the runnerup position behind country music group Zac Brown Band. “Channel Orange’s” surprise iTunes release did not sit well with retailers like Target, which refused to stock physical copies of the album when it officially arrived to stores this week. Target said it would not carry the CD because of Def Jam’s decision to release it a week early as an iTunes exclusive.
Ocean and Zac Brown Band are the only two debut albums in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart this week. Zac Brown’s “Uncaged” sold 234-thousand copies in its first week of release to top the chart at number one, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Justin Bieber’s “Believe” holds steady at number three, while Chris Brown’s “Fortune” drops to number four after topping the chart last week. Maroon 5′s “Overexposed” rounds out the top five at number five.
