This might come as a surprise the music world but Missy Elliott’s beautiful young, talented and neo-soul protégé Jazmine Sullivan has decided to leave the music industry.
The “Need U Bad†singer who has released only two great CD’s – “Fearless†in 2008, “Love Me Back†in 2010 and received two Grammy nominations – has announced via Twitter just moments ago that she is quitting music in order to focus on “some thing†and “figure out who she is.â€
Here is what she had to say:
i’m making an official announcement that i am taking a break from music. i’m trying to figure out who i am… w/out a mike, paper or pen.
i promised myself when it wasn’t fun anymore i wouldn’t do it. and here i am. i’m not saying i wont ever sing again in my life becuz i dont.
believe that. but in this moment… rt now… i got some things to figure out. i love u all and appreciate u soooooo much. u have no idea.
how much u’ve inspired me and fed my ego. but the truth is that i have to believe in me whether you all do or not. and thats what i’m lookin. for. that belief in myself. me. I. i love us. thanks for being here for me and riding with me on this journey. let us continue.
I am not mad at her for being honest. If more people were transparent like her the world be greater. I feel that she has chosen not to be a puppet and waste her talent. Go Jazmine!

I think she feels that way because her album didn’t sell and she feels unappreciated / slept on in the industry?
@lawdboi: that may be true. you can only go so far in the industry before becoming a sellout (whether its your soul, originality, or your standards). she’s made money, she’s made a name for herself and some people consider music as a lifetime career, but its always nice to do it just for the hell of it and then try your hand at something else.
with that being said, i respect jazmine sullivan ten times more than i ever have before.
Notice she said “with out Mike” instead of “Mic”. I hope its not because of her asshole DJ, “DJ Lil Mic” Mmmm…No man is worth giving up on your dream and purpose, esp him. Trust me, I know first hand. Smh.
