Nicki Minaj is seeing gold in the midst of controversy. Just days after a New York DJ publicly dissed her song “Starships,” the rapper is celebrating a new gold record for the very album on which “Starships” appears.
XXLmag.com says The female Weezy’s sophomore album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” was awarded a gold certification this week after selling more than 500-thousand copies in two months.
Nicki has been weathering criticism and scrutiny for bailing out of her performance last minute at Hot 97’s Summer Jam.
The rapper refused to go on stage at the New Jersey concert event after Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg called her song “wack” while introducing another act.
Nicki and her label family at Young Money Entertainment are still waiting for an apology. Rosenberg is refusing to do so.
Just so yall know only one other rap album appeared in the top 30 of the charts, as Atlanta trio Travis Porter’s debut offering, From Day 1, hit No. 16. The strip club-ready music moved 14,300 copies, and was the fourth highest debut on the charts overall.

It doesn’t matter how many millions she sells, at the end of the day, Rosenberg said ” starships” is not hip hop. And it’s not hip hop. Rosenberg didn’t say Nicki can’t rap, he said she sold out, by making pop music and not hip hop. Yes she has some hip hop tracks on he album, but Rosenberg was right.
She’s a great rapper, but one of her songs are questionable.
