Their story made headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2009. But despite all the drama, Rihanna says she still loves Chris Brown. This had to be one of the best interviews I have heard all year, Oprah went in…
The pop superstar let her guard down in a candid and emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired Sunday on OWN.
Rihanna told Oprah she still cares for Brown and wants him to be happy because of the love they once shared.
She reveals that repairing her relationship with her father allowed her to forgive Brown for abusing her in 2009, pointing out that her own father was abusive toward her mother.
Rihanna says she put on a tough exterior and held on to the anger after the incident with Chris because she didn’t want to be perceived as a victim.
She says she has now moved on and made peace with what happened.
In her interview with Oprah, Rihanna also spoke about her relationship with her grandmother, “Gran Gran Dolly,” who passed away last month at the age of 72. Rihanna cancelled several concerts at the time in order to be with her during her final days. The singer also took Oprah on a ride through her old neighborhood in Barbados, where the locals still treat her like family. She explains that she’s happiest in Barbados because being there makes her feel at home and grounded. The interview ended with Rihanna surprising her mother with the gift of a beautiful new house in Barbados. Her mother says she is proud that her daughter has been able to stay humble and connected with her family.
