Damon Dash is coming clean about his rift with Jay-Z. Dash tells TheCombatJackShow.com that there was never any bad blood between him and Jay before Roc-A-Fella Records was sold to Island Def Jam back in 2004. But things changed around the time it was announced that Jay-Z would become president and CEO of Def Jam Records. Dash says Jay-Z’s actions during his time as CEO were a “betrayal to the company.” He says he wishes Roc-A-Fella Records still existed and pointed to other longstanding hip-hop labels such as Cash Money and Bad Boy Records who are still in business. Hip-hop executive Damon Dash is being taken to court for allegedly releasing a rapper’s work without permission. According to TMZ.com, Louisiana emcee Currensy is suing Dash for dropping two of his albums in 2010. Currensy claims that he and Dash tried to negotiate a deal to release music together in 2010, but they could never come to an agreement. READ MORE
It seems Damon Dash can’t get a break, after being his with a tax bill of $3 million (see here), NYPD served Mr. Dash with a court summons for his 4-story warehouse in Tribeca, DD172. The sometimes art gallery, sometimes photo studio, sometimes rehearsal space has been deemed a nightclub by the city of New York. Dash and associates are accused of 6 counts of storing and selling alcoholic beverages without a license, first being caught violating the liquor code in November of 2010 and as recently as May of 2011. According to the Detroit News, Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder and Roc-A-Wear executive Damon Dash owes the Internal Revenues ServiceÂ $2,984,364!! Dash first fell on hard times back in 2008, when his wife left him and he lost his car and condo. During this time, he owed New York state $2.1 million in back taxes. Since then, Dash has started the Damon Dash Music Group and opened an art gallery in Manhattan.
