I went to the Black Health Matters Health Fair in Atlanta and learned one of the most important skills anyone can know: CPR. Nurses break down the best and simplest way to do it so you can help save a life.
The Black Health Matters Winter 2026 Health Summit and Expo came back to Atlanta for its fourth year, taking over Friendship Baptist Church on Walnut Street for a full Saturday focused on our health.
Everything was free. People could get checked for A1C, heart health and kidney function, plus mammograms and PSA screenings, all without paying a dime. Specialists led sessions on mental health, nutrition, heart health, kidney disease and managing chronic conditions, and DaShaun Jackson, known as “The Guru of Abs,” got the crowd moving. Breakfast and lunch were on the house too.
The day was co-hosted by Timon Kyle Durrett, Ambyr Michelle and Colby Natasha Nixon from CBS’s “Beyond the Gates,” the Atlanta-filmed daytime soap with a majority Black cast, along with V103’s Maria Boynton.
The CPR lesson was one of my favorite parts. It only takes a few minutes to learn, and it could help you save a life at home, at church or out in the street. If you missed this one, keep an eye out for the next Black Health Matters event and bring your family.

The cast of Beyond the Gates came out too. Subscribe to my YouTube channel @Freddyo1983 for more.
