Atlanta, the Dream are two wins away from the WNBA Finals. The Dream outlasted the New York Liberty 101-98 in overtime at State Farm Arena Wednesday night to take a 2-0 lead in the semifinals.
Angel Reese came up big when it mattered. She finished with 23 points, scored 6 in overtime and knocked down two free throws with 14.5 seconds left in regulation to put Atlanta up three. Jordin Canada matched her with 23 points and 8 assists.
New York did not go quietly. Breanna Stewart poured in 35 points, 25 of them in the first half, and Marine Fauthoux hit a three with 10.3 seconds left to tie it at 88. Rhyne Howard’s floater at the buzzer rimmed out, and we went to overtime.
In OT, Naz Hillmon scored the go-ahead layup with 20.8 seconds left, and Stewart missed a desperation shot at the end. Atlanta took Game 1 92-82, so the Dream now head to New York for Game 3 on Friday looking to get within one win of their first Finals trip since 2013.
The city needed this one after the Braves’ season ended the same night. Are y’all riding with the Dream all the way?
