2 Chainz is owning it like a grown man should. The Atlanta rapper issued a public apology to food critic Keith Lee after catching backlash for comments he made on Kirk Franklin’s “Den of Kings” roundtable, during a heated debate about celebrity privilege and food reviews — where he came for Keith over a negative review of his Atlanta restaurant Esco that wasn’t even Keith’s. The review actually came from fellow food critic Mr. ChimeTime.
After the clip made its rounds, Chainz says he got Keith on the phone himself. “I got a chance to speak to Keith after the podcast and it was all love,” he wrote. “I know my words offended some people and I apologize for that. What I said and what I meant were two different things.” He signed the post “Toni” — his real name — making it clear the apology was personal, not PR.
If you know anything about the Keith Lee effect, you know why this mattered. Keith’s reviews can change a restaurant’s life overnight — especially the small, Black-owned spots he champions — so coming for his name, even by mistake, was never going to fly with his fans.
Respect to 2 Chainz for picking up the phone and making it right instead of letting the internet run with it. That’s how grown men handle it. 🙏🏽
