Atlanta residents struggling with overdue water bills have a new opportunity to work out a payment plan, and more places to get help in person.
The Department of Watershed Management relaunched its FLOAT initiative November 2. Eligible single-family residential customers with balances at least 61 days overdue can seek assistance through January 31, 2027.
The city lists interest-free payment plans lasting up to 36 months, down payments starting at 2.5% of the balance, automatic waivers of late fees and fines, and eligible one-time grants or credits. Assistance depends on eligibility; residents should not assume their entire balance will be erased.
The rollout expands November 3 with three neighborhood assistance locations: Rosel Fann Recreation Center, 365 Cleveland Avenue SE; William Walker Recreation Center, 2405 Fairburn Road SW; and C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center, 3201 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW. Listed weekday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Those locations join Atlanta City Hall and Watershed headquarters, both offering extended hours of 8:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 2–6. The department also says customers can receive help addressing billing discrepancies and outstanding service requests.
That second piece matters. Residents who believe their balance is wrong can ask staff to review their account rather than assuming the only option is paying the disputed amount without discussion.
