Atlanta film family, clear your weekend — and give it up for TISHA CAMPBELL, who is stepping into a whole new bag!
The Peachtree Village International Film Festival (PVIFF) takes over Atlanta this Thursday through Sunday, November 5–8, with four days of premieres, panels, masterclasses and star power — and one of the weekend’s biggest stories is Tisha herself. The beloved “Martin” star makes her official WRITING DEBUT with the new feature film “One Last Shot,” which she co-wrote, executive produced AND stars in.
In the film, Tisha plays Joy Walker, a devoted single mother fighting to save her teenage son Chaz — a promising basketball player played by Jaden Lucas Miller — after he’s diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. It’s a mother’s worst nightmare, and Tisha is carrying it from the page to the screen. The cast also reunites her with AJ Johnson for the first time since their 1990 classic “House Party,” alongside Charles Malik Whitfield and Andrene Ward-Hammond.
Here’s the best part for Atlanta: “One Last Shot” is part of PVIFF’s FREE screenings during festival weekend at the Tara Theatre — and Tisha and the cast and crew will be in the building for a Q&A after the screening. If you can’t make it, the movie premieres on Lifetime Saturday, November 14 at 8/7c.
The festival — founded in 2005 on the philosophy “It Takes a Village” and anchored at the Courtland Grand Hotel downtown — opens Thursday night with the animated feature “A Soulful Christmas,” and the weekend also brings a Soledad O’Brien career retrospective moderated by Dr. Rashad Richey, a two-day masterclass from Obba Babatundé, appearances from Margaret Avery, Hawthorne James, Brely Evans, Cocoa Brown and more, and the 21st Annual PVIFF Awards on Sunday afternoon.
Twenty-one years of celebrating OUR stories in OUR city. Pull up, Atlanta — passes, schedules and the full lineup are at pviffatl.com.
