Tina Knowles is already locked in. She shared her excitement for the series this week, writing that she cannot wait to see it and that Michael Ealy is brilliant in it — calling him such a talented actor and saying for sure she will be watching on Amazon Prime.
Ealy steps into one of the most important roles in the story: Malcolm X, the leader whose friendship and teachings shaped a young Cassius Clay as he became Muhammad Ali. The role is recurring across the season, and the connection between the two men is one of the threads the whole series is framed around.
‘The Greatest’ is the first authorized scripted series about the life of Muhammad Ali, made in collaboration with his estate. His widow Lonnie Ali serves as an executive producer, alongside Michael B. Jordan. The series was created by Ben Watkins, the showrunner behind Prime Video’s hit ‘Cross.’
Newcomer Jaalen Best stars as Cassius Clay, later Muhammad Ali, and the season follows him from his breakthrough gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics to his pivotal 1964 championship bout with Sonny Liston. It is a coming-of-age story — the personal, professional and political battles he fought inside and outside the ring, set against a changing America.
The cast around him is stacked: Omari Hardwick as his father Cassius Clay Sr., Dana Gourrier as his mother Odessa “Bird” Clay, Kai Parham as his brother Rudy Clay, Amin Joseph as Sonny Liston, and Giovanni Ribisi as his trainer Angelo Dundee.
All eight episodes premiered November 4 on Prime Video, streaming in more than 240 countries and territories — the full season is available right now, no weekly wait. Will you be watching this weekend?
