Baltimore Ravens sent out a very interesting TWEET stating that the team has released Ray Rice, 27, from his five-year, $35 million contract that included a $24 million guaranteed when he first signed back in 2012.
The internet has been abuzz after TMZ released footage of the superstar NFL player attacking his fiance. The team released that they had not seen the video of the fight when they penalized him with a 2 game suspension.
Rice was arrested on aggravated assault charges after allegedly hitting Janay Palmer in the elevator of the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City in February. He was later accepted into a pretrial diversionary program, and the charges will be dropped upon completion.
Days after his arrest a video of Rice dragging Palmer’s body out of the elevator surfaced online. But it wasn’t until Monday that the world saw the disturbing video of what really went on in the elevator.
Sports insider Brian McFarland points out that releasing Rice will save the Ravens $3.529 million against their 2014 salary cap. This could be carried over into 2015 to help them offset.
