Dr. Dre’s got a thing for electronics and he’s making it known with his newest business venture. The legendary rapper/producer is partnering up with HTC and Verizon to release a smartphone due out in a two weeks. There had been reports that he had sold a majority stake in his Beats Electronics to HTC for $309 million and it turns out that the reports were true! Read more inside to get the inside scoop on Dr. Dre’s upcoming plans for his company Beats Electronic.
While many are not sure about the details of the phone that will be available to the public, one thing is clear: Dr. Dre is ready to make an empire with his company. In a recent interview he stated, “I am trying to be number 2 to Apple, and number 2 to Apple is not a bad position to be in”.
Dr. Dre also noted,
I am trying to build my electronics company, Beats Electronics. We just signed a major deal with HTC and we have cell phones coming out in the next two weeks. I am involved in Chrysler; we are in cars right now. My whole thing is to take over everything with a speaker. That is what I am shooting for.
But what about his music career? He had an answer for that too.
I am never going to give music up. Music is like air to me, [music] is like oxygen, so I am always doing that. As soon as I get back to Los Angeles, I am back in the studio doing my thing. I have a couple of new artists that I am excited about … Kendrick Lamar and Slim The Mobster. These are the next two artists, and these are probably my final two artists that I am going to be working with at least for the next couple of years. I am going to devote all my attention to them and make sure their sh** comes out the way it should be. I am just having fun with life right now!
While Dr. Dre focuses on his electronic company and his new artists, I guess his fans will have to sit back and wait for Detox to drop. Are you excited to see what this new smartphone will be like? Based off his headphones, Beats by Dre, would you get his new smartphone?
am I the only person thats not really feeling Dr Dre?
