Yet another rap star will be heading behind bars for weapons charges in New York City. Ja Rule was in court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The emcee is expected to receive two years in prison. Ja is due back in court on February 9th, although a date for his sentencing has yet to be set. Following his court appearance, Ja Rule told his fans on Twitter, quote, “Minor setback for a major comeback.” Ja Rule was arrested in July of 2007 when he was pulled over following a concert at New York’s Beacon Theater. Authorities eventually discovered a semi-automatic handgun in the rapper’s car.
Fellow emcee Lil Wayne was also arrested following the same concert when police saw him smoking marijuana near a tour bus. Authorities eventually found Wayne to be in possession of a firearm. He wound up serving eight months in Rikers Island earlier this year on weapons charges.
