Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has won the race to be Chicago’s next mayor. Emanuel won the race with well over the over 50-percent needed to make sure there isn’t an April 5th runoff.
He becomes the first Jewish mayor in the city’s history. Emanuel’s candidacy was controversial after several lawsuits on whether he met the residency rules to even be on the ballot. Turn out for the election was low at only around 40-percent. It’s the first time in 22 years Mayor Richard Daley wasn’t on the ballot.
