Is Waka Flocka really about to walk away from rap at the height of his run? That is the question Atlanta is asking after the Brick Squad star sat down with Elle Duncan and confirmed that his recent tweets were no joke: he says this game is too fake, and he plans to quit rap after this year. Coming from the man with the hardest records in every club right now, that is not a statement anybody expected to hear.
Waka’s rise has been anything but fake. A year ago he was Gucci Mane’s protégé with something to prove; today Flockaveli has the whole country going hard in the paint, and his records will not leave the radio. Sold-out shows, a debut album that beat the doubters, and fans who treat every concert like a contact sport — by every measure, this is supposed to be Waka’s victory lap, not his exit interview.
Which is exactly why his frustration hits different. Waka doubled down in the interview: the tweets were true, and the game as a whole feels fake to him. It is a complaint you hear from artists who came into this loving the music and then ran headfirst into the politics — the handshakes, the industry friendships, and the business that has nothing to do with the studio. Whether he means it forever, or this is a young star blowing off steam, is now the debate running through every barbershop in the A.
Press play above and hear it from Waka himself. Then tell us in the comments — do you believe Waka Flocka is really leaving the rap game, or will the music pull him back?
