Nobody, and we mean nobody, works a stage like Fantasia. The American Idol champ brought her show to Atlanta and had the whole building in the palm of her hand, but the moment everybody is still talking about is when Tasia took us all the way back, breaking out the go-go classic ‘Da Butt’ and turning the concert into a party.
If you grew up on it, you already know: the E.U. record, made famous in Spike Lee’s School Daze, is one of those songs that can move any crowd, in any era. In Fantasia’s hands it became pure joy, with the singer dancing, laughing and feeding off an Atlanta audience that was on its feet and right there with her for every second of it.
Moments like this are why Fantasia’s live show stays undefeated. Long after Idol, she remains one of the most electrifying performers in R&B, a voice that can tear the roof off with her own classics like ‘When I See You’ and ‘Truth Is,’ then turn right around and have this much fun with a throwback. She just blessed fans with her new Christmas album, Christmas After Midnight, and if this show is any preview, her holiday run is about to be something special.
Press play to watch Fantasia cut loose on ‘Da Butt’ live in Atlanta, and tell us in the comments: what throwback should she bless next?
