After seeing TikToks about food shortages, I rushed to my local Kroger in Atlanta. The shelves weren’t empty yet, but they were thinning fast.
Why People Were Worried
In the spring of 2025, new tariffs on imported goods were all over the news, and social media filled up with videos warning that grocery prices were about to jump and shelves were about to go empty. A lot of people started stocking up just in case.
Tariffs are taxes on imported products. When they go up, companies often pass at least part of that cost on to shoppers, especially on items like produce, coffee and other goods that come from overseas. That is why so many families were nervous about their next grocery bill.
What I Saw at Kroger
I went to my local Kroger in Atlanta to see it with my own eyes. The shelves were not empty, but some sections were definitely thinner than usual. Watch the video to walk the aisles with me.
Shop Smart, Not Scared
Panic buying can create the very shortages people are afraid of. Make a list, buy what your family will actually use, compare store brands and keep an eye on weekly sales. A little planning goes a long way when prices are rising.
