Hip-hop history takes over the museum this Saturday. Public Enemy’s Chuck D and graffiti pioneer Darryl “Cornbread” McCray headline the 4th Annual Hip-Hop Cultural Summit on October 17 at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington — and admission is completely FREE.
This year’s theme is “Art as Activism.” Chuck D closes the day (3:50–4:40 PM) with a fireside chat alongside AllHipHop co-founder Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur, while Cornbread — the Philadelphia writer credited with birthing modern graffiti — joins an “Art as Activism” conversation and book signing. The summit runs 10 AM to 5 PM, all ages, with about 1,500 guests expected (registration required through the museum’s website).
The day also packs in an MC battle hosted by Champtown with beats by Hezekiah, DJ sets from DJ Supreme and DJ SoulBuck, dance performances, panels and vendors. It all ties into the museum’s “Walls of Resistance: Art as Activism” exhibition, featuring Cornbread’s work alongside 17 other graffiti artists.
The summit is presented with AllHipHop.com, Guerrilla Republik and the Stop the Violence Coalition — proof that hip-hop isn’t just entertainment. It’s history, education and community power. If you’re anywhere near Wilmington this Saturday, pull up.
