Prince fans have an album release and a movie date to put on their calendars.
NPG Records and the Prince Estate announced October 29 that 3121 Expanded Edition will arrive December 11. The release revisits the artist’s 2006 album with additional studio material and live performance footage connected to his Las Vegas era.
The expanded digital edition includes the original 12 songs plus 10 additional recordings. Acoustic versions of The Word, Love, and Te Amo Corazón are among the material listed in the announcement, alongside tracks including Time of Ur Life and Glass Cutter.
The second development takes the celebration into theaters. Prince: 3121 Las Vegas Concert is scheduled for a limited U.S. and Canadian theatrical release beginning December 3, with tickets going on sale November 11. The concert film runs 154 minutes and will be presented in 4K, with Dolby Atmos at equipped theaters.
There is also a separate live album, 3121 Las Vegas Live, planned for Record Store Day Black Friday on November 27. That is a different release from the expanded studio album arriving in December.
The dates give fans several ways to revisit the period: a live recording in November, a theatrical concert experience in early December, and the expanded album afterward.
FreddyO’s take: The pairing lets listeners connect Prince’s studio choices with the way he brought the music to a stage. For fans who missed that era, it is a chance to explore both sides of the work.
