I had a chance to catch up with the very talented and busy LeToya Luckett today to talk about her latest projects, being the leading lady on TV One’s hit show “Here We Go Again,” new music and her recent engagement.
Check out the details after the break.
LeToya Luckett is a very busy lady these days with her most recent project being the star on TV ONE’s hit new show “Here We Go Again“. Letoya stars as Maddy Walker a successful attorney and partner at Walker Lewis & Associates, who happens to be the mother to a “boy crazy” 16-year-old daughter, Shanté. When asked to describe her character and do they have anything in common LeToya has the following to say,
Maddy Walker is relatable! I am very excited about “Here We Go Again”, this is my first time being a lead on a comedy television show! I can relate to Maddy, the way she handles her work and turns “it” on, being a woman juggling so many different things in our life, but not letting anything get in the way and just trying to keep everyone happy, including herself.”
LeToya is not only the star of “Here We Go Again” she is also the Executive Producer of the show. When asked how she’s coping with staring in the show and producing at the same time LeToya had the following to say,
“This is a new experience for me and I’m enjoying it honey.”
When it comes to how the show relates to her own personal life, LeToya had the following to say,
“The show hits on a very touchy subject that many females and teenage boys today still deal with, teenage pregnancy. Teenage pregnancy can be frowned upon a lot, by male or female, you have to be able to show up as a parent and still show up for your purpose, what it is that you’re called to do and learn how to balance both and be present in both.”
My role on “Single Ladies” challenged me the most, my first TV series role, as scary as it was I just did my best with her, I had fun, I went beyond my fears and tried something and was great at it, I’m proud of “Felecia.”
As for LeToya and her love life, she couldn’t be happier. When I asked about her recent engagement to relationship expert Rob Hill, she smiled so big, blushing through the phone she answered
“It’s a new page in my life, taking it one day at a time, I’m happy, I’m excited for the future, whatever God has for me, I’m enjoying my life right now.”
LeToya first hit the entertainment industry with one of the world’s largest girl R&B groups Destiny’s Child, unfortunately her time with the group fell short. She didn’t let that stop her from pursuing her first love, singing.
“I was so fearful of being on my own, I didn’t know what to expect from that…singing in the group since age 12, not having anybody on my right or left of me to feed off of their energy…I had to learn and find strength and confidence in myself to move along, but I’m excited about it, I’m excited that I challenged myself and now here I am 3rd album, A&R of my own album. I’m a Different Toya than I was.”
Named “One of the Best Artists of 2006” by AOL Music, her first solo album self-titled LeToya was certified platinum, included the No. 1 hit “Torn” and “She Don’t.” Her second album Lady Love, debuted as the No.1 album on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
A true entertainment artist at heart, she could never choose between singing and acting because she feels she can relate to so many different people from both industries. LeToya explains,
“I can’t choose one over the other, I feel like I serve in my music…it feels so good when people come up to me and tell me that my song helped them get through things…..with acting, portraying those characters that are so relatable to everyday people is so amazing to me.”
What is next for LeToya Luckett?
“2 new singles by the end of the month, TV show “Here We Go Again” upcoming guest appearance by Keisha Knight Pulliam, more TV, more movies, it’s just going to be a big year. I am speaking more and love the fact that I can share my story and testimony of overcoming obstacles and inspiring others!”
The most important thing LeToya wants people to know is that she is happy and very appreciative of all the support she has received of both sides of her career. She thanks everyone for watching and prays that people continue to support. She left us with some very good words of encouragement,
“Continue to be you, continue to stay true to you, stay prayerful, hopeful, keep your faith up and live your life…you only get one!”
Remember to catch her show Here We Go Again every Tuesday night on TV One at 8pm EST and be on the lookout for her two new singles by the end of this month.
