Ms Empress Pearl is stepping out as one of the city’s newest female rappers, and FreddyO caught up with her as she talked about her music and performed her record “Come Get Your Daughter.” The title alone lets you know she is coming with confidence, personality and a message, and the performance shows exactly why people are starting to pay attention.
Ladies have been running the mic for years, from Queen Latifah and MC Lyte opening the doors to Trina holding it down in Miami and Nicki Minaj setting the blogs on fire right now with her Young Money run. Empress Pearl is carving out her own lane in that tradition, representing Atlanta with a style that is bold, direct and made for the stage. When she performs “Come Get Your Daughter,” it is part warning, part anthem, a record with the kind of hook that sticks with you long after the camera stops rolling.
