The King is home, and Atlanta is showing him nothing but love. T.I. touched the stage at V-103’s For Sisters Only 2010 — the ladies’ expo that takes over the Georgia World Congress Center every fall — and the crowd treated him like royalty from the second he walked out. FreddyO was in the building as Tip worked the stage, and the energy in that room said everything about what this man means to this city.
For Sisters Only has been an Atlanta institution for years, mixing music, shopping, health, beauty and sisterhood into one big weekend, and the 2010 edition is stacked with stars. But when the King of the South is on the bill, in his hometown, it hits different. Tip came home earlier this year, and he has been making up for lost time ever since — in the studio, in the community, and on stages just like this one.
Musically, Tip is in album mode. Paper Trail took him to a whole new level, and his new album King Uncaged is on the way, with “I’m Back” and “Got Your Back” with Keri Hilson already heating up the streets and the charts. You can hear the hunger in the new music — this is a man with something to prove and a city riding right behind him. When he performs in Atlanta, it is never just a show. It is a homecoming.
