Atlanta’s own Travis Porter is having a moment — and it’s about to get even bigger. The trio of Ali, Quez and Strap sat down with FreddyO for an exclusive interview, and they’ve got plenty to talk about: a BET Awards nomination, a brand new album due this summer, and plans for a possible new mixtape for the streets.
Let’s talk about that BET Awards nomination first. When the nominations were announced this month, Travis Porter earned a nod for Best New Artist — putting the Decatur-bred group in the running alongside some of the biggest breakout names in music. For a group that built its buzz the Atlanta way — grinding out mixtapes and tearing down club stages — the nomination is a well-deserved stamp of approval from the industry.
And they’re not resting on it. The group tells FreddyO their debut album is due this summer, and fans can expect the same high-energy, club-ready anthems that made “Make It Rain” and “Go Shorty Go” unavoidable. On top of that, a new mixtape may be on the way to hold the streets over until the album drops. If the last few years proved anything, it’s that Travis Porter knows how to feed their fans.
