I think the Dominican Republic might have the world’s best fried chicken. Loren LoRosa from The Breakfast Club joined me to taste it and give her verdict.
Pica Pollo: The Dominican Take on Fried Chicken
In the Dominican Republic, fried chicken is known as pica pollo, and it is a staple you can find everywhere from neighborhood spots to busy late-night counters. The chicken is usually seasoned with garlic, oregano and lime, then fried until it is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
It is often served with tostones, which are fried green plantains, and the flavor is different from the Southern fried chicken a lot of us grew up on. That is exactly why I had to try it.
Loren LoRosa Gives Her Verdict
I was not tasting alone. Loren LoRosa, the entertainment journalist known for her work with “The Breakfast Club,” joined me to give her honest opinion. Watch the video to see if she agreed with me.
Food is one of my favorite parts of traveling. Trying local dishes is the best way to experience a country’s culture, and the Dominican Republic is full of flavor.
