This is the kind of story we need more of. Two young men from Gadsden, Alabama, Ja’Torrian Taylor and Tevin Rice, mowed 50 lawns for free for elderly neighbors, veterans and people who couldn’t keep up with their yards on their own.
They did it through the 50 Yard Challenge, created by Rodney Smith Jr., known as the “Lawnmower Man.” Kids earn a different colored T-shirt every 10 lawns, kind of like karate belts, until they hit 50. More than 6,000 young people across the country have signed up.
When the duo finished, Smith rewarded them with a new mower, leaf blower and trimmer to grow their business, TJ & JT Mowing Service. He says the equipment is about more than cutting grass. It’s teaching them discipline.
Salute to these young entrepreneurs. Who in your neighborhood could use a story like this?
