Braxton Sisters Perform Cosby Show Song ‘Night Time Is The Right Time’

There is nothing like a Braxton sister moment! Toni, Tamar, Traci, Towanda and Trina linked up and took it back — way back — performing “Night Time Is The Right Time,” the Ray Charles classic made famous by that unforgettable Cosby Show episode, and FreddyO has the exclusive video of the ladies in action.

Everybody remembers the Huxtables performing this song, and the Braxtons clearly grew up on it too. Watching the sisters fall into harmony around each other is a reminder of where it all started for them — singing together long before the solo careers, the Grammys and Braxton Family Values made them household names. When these five get together around a song, the blend is automatic. That’s not practice, that’s blood.

And let’s be honest, seeing all of the sisters laughing and singing together is exactly what the fans have been wanting. This season of Braxton Family Values has put the family through it, with the sisters working through years of tension in front of the cameras. Moments like this prove the bond is still there underneath it all. When the music starts, the Braxton sisters are one voice.

With Toni still riding the wave of her “Sex & Cigarettes” album and Tamar shutting down stages with her own live show, the ladies are busier than ever these days. But it’s the sister moments like this one that will always hit different. Sang, ladies!

  • Atlanta’s New Freaknik ‘Freakem Fest’ Recap
    ,

Atlanta’s New Freaknik ‘Freakem Fest’ Recap

Atlanta loves a comeback, and this summer the city tried to bring back its most legendary party of all time. Freakem Fest — billed as Atlanta’s new Freaknik — took over this weekend, and FreddyO was on the scene to capture the cars, the fashion, the music and the turn-up in our exclusive recap.

If you know Atlanta history, you know Freaknik was the spring break destination of the 80s and 90s, when students from HBCUs all over the country flooded Peachtree Street and turned the whole city into one giant party. The original Freaknik was shut down in the late 90s, but the legend never died. Every few years somebody tries to bring that energy back, and this year Freakem Fest stepped up to take on the challenge.

What set this one apart is that it brought the spirit of Freaknik into an organized festival setting, with stages, performances and room to actually enjoy the moment instead of sitting in gridlock on Peachtree. The crowd came dressed to be seen, the whips were clean, the DJs kept the classics rolling, and the whole day felt like a family reunion for everybody who grew up on Atlanta party culture.

Of course, festival season in the South has been on fire this summer — Xscape had fans in a frenzy down at Essence Festival in New Orleans just last month — and Atlanta made sure its own party held its own. Whether Freakem Fest becomes the annual tradition that Freaknik once was remains to be seen, but this weekend proved one thing: this city still knows how to show up and show out.

  • Mimi Faust Talks Stevie J & Faith Evans Wedding & Karlie Redd Engagement

Mimi Faust Talks Stevie J & Faith Evans Wedding & Karlie Redd Engagement

The Atlanta tea is piping hot this week, and Mimi Faust is not holding back! FreddyO caught up with the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star for an exclusive conversation, and Mimi gave us her real reaction to not one but two bombshells rocking her circle right now: her ex Stevie J marrying R&B legend Faith Evans in Las Vegas, and her castmate Karlie Redd announcing her engagement. If you think you know how Mimi feels, wait until you hear it from Mimi herself.

First, the wedding that stopped the timeline. News broke this week that Stevie J and Faith Evans tied the knot in a private Las Vegas ceremony, and the whole culture has been talking about it for two straight days. Stevie, the hitmaking producer behind some of Bad Boy’s biggest records, and Faith, the First Lady of Bad Boy and the widow of The Notorious B.I.G., have known each other for decades — but nobody, and we mean nobody, had a surprise Stevie-and-Faith wedding on their 2018 bingo card. For Mimi, this is personal: she and Stevie share years of history and a beautiful daughter, Eva, and their story played out in front of the whole world on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. In this video Mimi talks about how she found out, what it means for their family and co-parenting, and where she stands today.

And because one headline is never enough in Atlanta, Karlie Redd chose this same week to announce that she is engaged, showing off her ring and sending the cast group chat into a frenzy. Karlie’s love life has been a front-and-center storyline on the show for years, so an engagement is a major new chapter — and Mimi, who has stood next to Karlie through plenty of cast drama, weddings and breakups, has thoughts on that ring, that timing and what happily-ever-after looks like in this circle. With season seven of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta just wrapping up, trust us, there is a lot to unpack.

One thing about Mimi Faust: she has lived her whole story in public, and in this conversation she is calm, clear and completely unbothered in a way that only comes with growth. Press play on the exclusive video above to hear her full take on Stevie and Faith’s wedding and Karlie’s engagement, browse the gallery for more FreddyO moments with the ladies of Atlanta, and then meet us in the comments: are you congratulating Stevie and Faith, congratulating Karlie — or are you, like us, still picking your jaw up off the floor?

  • Keke Wyatt ‘If Only You Knew’ at NeNe Leakes Birthday 2017
    ,

Keke Wyatt ‘If Only You Knew’ at NeNe Leakes Birthday 2017

When Keke Wyatt grabs a microphone, church is officially in session! The R&B powerhouse gave NeNe Leakes a birthday gift that money can’t buy at NeNe’s birthday celebration, delivering a show-stopping performance of Patti LaBelle’s classic “If Only You Knew” that had the whole room on its feet — and FreddyO was there to catch it all.

NeNe has been celebrating her milestone 50th birthday in true Linnethia fashion — fabulous, over the top and surrounded by family, friends and Atlanta’s finest. And what is a Leakes party without a moment? Keke provided just that. From the very first note she took the room to church, running up and down the scale with the kind of effortless vocals that remind you she is truly one of the most gifted singers of her generation.

“If Only You Knew” is sacred ground — Ms. Patti made it a standard back in 1983 — and plenty of singers have tried and failed to do it justice. But Keke didn’t just sing it, she testified through it. Every run was precise, every high note soared, and by the end of the song NeNe was beaming like the proud birthday queen she is. This is exactly why Keke’s live performances are the stuff of legend around Atlanta.

With NeNe back holding her peach on this season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Keke continuing to bless stages all over the country, these two ladies are showing everybody exactly how you celebrate a milestone in style. Happy birthday, NeNe — and Keke, the people are still waiting on that new music!

  • Xscape Brings Out All Of Their Husbands including Tip & Baby
    ,

Xscape Brings Out All Of Their Husbands including Tip & Baby

Atlanta, stand up — the queens are home! Xscape had the whole crowd on their feet when Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, LaTocha Scott and Tamika Scott paused the show and brought ALL of their husbands out on stage, including Tiny’s husband, T.I. — Tip himself. The second those men walked out, the place went up, and FreddyO was right there to catch every second of it.

If you have been watching this reunion unfold, you already know this summer belongs to Xscape. The group shocked everybody earlier this year by announcing they were getting back together, and on June 25 they hit the BET Awards stage for their first performance together in nearly 20 years. A week later they shut down the Essence Festival in New Orleans, and this comeback has been on fire ever since.

That is what made this moment feel so special. One by one, the ladies called their men out — Todd Tucker beaming next to Kandi, Rocky Bivens right there with LaTocha, Darnell “Big D” Thompkins standing proud with Tamika, and Tip stepping out to join Tiny to one of the loudest reactions of the night. There was even a baby in on the fun, which made it a true family affair. No drama and no messy headlines — just four couples, a stage full of love, and a crowd eating up every single second.

And the show itself? The vocals are still THE vocals. From “Just Kickin’ It” and “Understanding” to “Who Can I Run To,” the harmonies are tight, the chemistry is real, and Xscape is moving like they never left. This reunion is no nostalgia act — it is a loud reminder of exactly why these four women ran R&B in the ’90s, and why fans never stopped asking for this moment.

Press play on the exclusive video above to see the big moment for yourself, and scroll through the photos below — including more from Xscape’s reunion run with their first performance after the BET Awards and their big night at Essence Festival 2017. With The Great Xscape Tour on the way this fall, if this night is any indication, you do NOT want to miss these ladies when they hit your city!

  • Xscape First Performance After the BET Awards
    ,

Xscape First Performance After the BET Awards

Atlanta, stand up — Xscape is officially back! Just one night after shutting down the BET Awards, Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, LaTocha Scott and Tamika Scott hit the stage together once again, and FreddyO was right there to capture every moment of their first performance after the big show. The crowd was on its feet before the ladies even sang a note.

If you watched the BET Awards on Sunday night, you already know the reunion was the moment of the night. It was the first time the four ladies had performed together in nearly two decades, and social media has not stopped talking about it since. The harmonies, the choreography and the outfits took us straight back to the golden era of 90s R&B, when “Just Kickin’ It,” “Understanding” and “Who Can I Run To” ruled the charts and Xscape was running the game.

What made this performance so special is that it proved Sunday night was no one-off TV moment. The ladies looked comfortable, sounded incredible and fed off the crowd’s energy like they had never left the stage. Every run and every harmony reminded everybody in the room why Xscape remains one of the most beloved girl groups to ever come out of Atlanta, discovered right here in the city by Jermaine Dupri and his So So Def camp.

The reunion train is not slowing down anytime soon. Xscape is headed to New Orleans next for the Essence Festival, and the buzz about new music, a tour and their upcoming Bravo reality series keeps growing by the day. If this weekend is any indication, the ladies are about to give their day-one fans the comeback they have been begging for for years. Welcome back, ladies — Atlanta is proud of you!

  • Keke Wyatt ‘Long As I Live’ at NeNe Leakes Birthday
    ,

Keke Wyatt ‘Long As I Live’ at NeNe Leakes Birthday

Now THIS is how you celebrate a birthday! NeNe Leakes’ birthday celebration in Atlanta turned into a straight-up concert when Keke Wyatt grabbed the mic and started singing “Long As I Live,” and let us tell you — there was not a quiet soul in the room. When Keke opens her mouth, everybody stops what they’re doing and listens, and FreddyO was right there in the middle of it all.

The party itself was already the talk of the town. NeNe’s husband Gregg and her circle pulled out all the stops for her surprise 50th birthday celebration, with her Real Housewives of Atlanta family and friends packing the room to show the birthday girl some love. Good food, good people, and NeNe glowing all night long — but once the music started, the whole party went straight to another level.

Keke Wyatt is a singer’s singer, and “Long As I Live” is not a song just anybody should attempt. But Keke didn’t just sing it — she took it to church and back, running up and down her range like it was nothing while the whole crowd shouted her on. Note after note, run after run, she reminded everybody in that room exactly why her voice is one of the most respected in R&B, period.

What made the moment even sweeter was how personal it felt. This was not some big arena stage — this was Keke singing for her girl, up close, in a room full of family and friends. NeNe soaked up every second of her moment, and honestly, a performance like that is better than any gift bag or birthday cake money can buy.

Press play on the exclusive video above and try to sit still — we dare you. And scroll through the photos below for more Keke Wyatt magic from NeNe’s birthday celebrations, including her performances of “If Only You Knew” and “You and I.” Happy birthday, NeNe — and Keke, girl, you SANG that!

  • KeKe Wyatt Live ‘When I See Jesus’ — Tiny’s Father’s Funeral
    ,

KeKe Wyatt Live ‘When I See Jesus’ — Tiny’s Father’s Funeral

Our hearts are heavy today. Family, friends and fans gathered to say a final farewell to Charles Pope — beloved father of Tameka “Tiny” Harris and a founding member of the legendary Atlanta group The Tams — and in one of the most moving moments of the homegoing service, KeKe Wyatt stood and sang “When I See Jesus” over the room.

Mr. Pope passed away on July 11 at the age of 76, after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Long before the world came to know his daughter as Tiny of Xscape, Charles Pope was making his own mark on music history with The Tams, the Atlanta vocal group behind timeless favorites like “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy” and “What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am).” Music was quite literally in this family’s blood.

That is what made KeKe’s tribute so fitting. KeKe and Tiny are sisters in song — both blessed with once-in-a-generation voices — and as she lifted “When I See Jesus” through the sanctuary, there was barely a dry eye to be found. Every note carried the promise at the heart of the song: that this goodbye is not the end, and that one sweet day, we will see our loved ones again.

Moments like this one remind us what the Atlanta music family is truly about. Behind the hits, the shows and the headlines, these are real families who show up for one another — and KeKe showed up in the best way she knows how, using the gift God gave her to comfort a grieving friend and honor a father’s memory.

FreddyO extends our deepest condolences to Tiny, to her mother Dianne, and to the entire Pope and Harris family. Mr. Pope, your voice helped build the soundtrack of a generation, and your legacy lives on in every song your family sings. Rest in peace. Press play above to witness KeKe’s beautiful tribute, and please keep this family lifted in your prayers.

  • Waka Flocka Fight
    ,

    Waka Flocka Fight

A short video showing Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame involved in a physical altercation is making the rounds online this week, and FreddyO is posting the footage here so fans can see exactly what the cameras captured. The clip is brief, the scene is crowded, and a lot happens in a matter of seconds, so we are reporting only what can actually be seen in the video above.

For anyone just getting familiar, Waka Flocka Flame is the Queens-born, Atlanta-raised rapper behind “O Let’s Do It” and the smash “No Hands” with Roscoe Dash and Wale. Signed to Gucci Mane’s camp and managed by his mother, Deb Antney of Mizay Entertainment, he released his debut album Flockaveli last fall and has spent most of 2011 on the road, building one of the most energetic live reputations in rap while he works on his next album.

Short clips like this one rarely tell the whole story. They usually start in the middle of a situation, they do not show what was said beforehand, and as of this posting there has been no confirmed official statement laying out how this altercation began or how it ended. Until more verified information is available, we will not speculate about who started it, and we are not going to celebrate anybody getting hurt. A camera catching a few seconds is evidence of a moment, not the full account of a night.

What is not in dispute is that Waka’s career is moving fast right now, and moments like this can become a distraction from the music very quickly. Fans in the gallery links above can hear more from his mother and manager, Deb Antney, and from Waka himself on where his career is headed. We will update this story if a confirmed statement or additional verified details become available. For now, press play, stick to the facts, and keep the conversation respectful in the comments.

  • Gucci Mane Explains ‘REAL’ Reasoning Behind The Ice Cream Face Tattoo
    ,

Gucci Mane Explains ‘REAL’ Reasoning Behind The Ice Cream Face Tattoo

Two months later, everybody is STILL talking about that tattoo. When Gucci Mane walked out back in January with a giant ice cream cone tattooed on his right cheek — lightning bolts, three scoops and “Brrr” written across the cone — fans, bloggers and more than a few fellow rappers all had the same question: why would he do that to his face? Now Gucci sits down on camera and explains the REAL reasoning behind the ice cream tattoo, in his own words.

First, let’s be clear about why this story will not die. Gucci is Atlanta rap royalty — the Trap House and So Icey era made him a blueprint for a whole generation, and his “Brrr” ad-lib is as famous as any hook in the South. The ice cream cone has been his symbol since day one, from his So Icey Entertainment name to the Bart Simpson chains the whole world copied. So when the symbol moved from his neck to his face, permanently, right in the middle of a run of legal and personal headlines, the internet did exactly what the internet does: the jokes, the memes and the think pieces have not stopped since January.

That is exactly why you need to hear it from Gucci himself instead of the rumor mill. In this exclusive video he breaks down what the tattoo means to him — the cold, So Icey identity he has carried his entire career, and what he wants the world to remember every single time they see his face. No publicist, no statement, no spin: just Gucci, talking plainly about a decision that will be with him for the rest of his life, at a moment when he also has brand-new music hitting the streets this spring.

Love it or hate it, that is the most Gucci Mane thing about the whole situation: he did it his way, and he is standing on it. Press play on the video above to hear the full explanation straight from the Trap God himself, then browse the gallery for more Gucci and Keyshia Ka’oir moments. And tell us the truth in the comments, FreddyO fam — if you were Gucci, would you have done it? And what does YOUR favorite rapper’s most famous tattoo mean?
