Sy’Rai Smith, Brandy’s daughter, celebrated her debut EP Cold War with a private listening party in Atlanta. FreddyO was in the room, so click through for all the photos.
Cold War is an eight-track project, and Sy’Rai previewed it for a packed room of supporters before it hit streaming. The EP opens with “Mind Ya Business,” and fans have already latched onto the singles “Bullseye” and “Late Night.”
Growing up as the daughter of an R&B icon comes with big expectations, but Sy’Rai is carving out a sound of her own. Cold War is out now on Spotify and Apple Music.
What’s striking about Sy’Rai is how little she leans on the family name. Brandy’s voice is one of the most studied in R&B, and Sy’Rai grew up inside that legacy — but Cold War sounds like a young artist introducing herself on her own terms, from the confidence of “Mind Ya Business” to the late-night mood of “Late Night.”
The listening party had that family-and-industry feel Atlanta does best: a room full of people who showed up to really listen, and a young singer watching faces as each record played. These photos catch those moments — the nerves, the smiles, and the celebration once the room made it official.
