Auntie Maxine did it AGAIN. Congresswoman Maxine Waters has won reelection in California — and at 88 years old, she becomes the oldest woman in Congress. NBC News projected her win as she pulled in nearly 82% of the vote against Republican Cristian Morales, who took 18.3%.

The result was widely expected after Waters received four times as many votes as Morales in the June primary. She turned 88 in August — and if you think she’s slowing down, think again: she has brushed off every concern about her age and told Politico she has more energy than younger people.

First elected to Congress in 1990, Waters represents South Los Angeles and the South Bay. She is expected to once again lead the House Financial Services Committee — the same committee where in 2019 she became the first woman and the first African American to serve as chair.
A key voice in the Democratic Party for decades, Auntie Maxine is still standing, still fighting, and now making history doing it. Drop your congratulations for her in the comments!
