    Ciara Tries To Bowl

Everybody knows Ciara can dance circles around just about anybody, but can the Princess of Crunk & B actually bowl? FreddyO caught up with Ci Ci at the bowling alley, and let’s just say the same girl who kills every stage she touches had to humble herself real quick when it was time to roll that ball down the lane!

Decked out and laughing the whole time, Ciara traded her heels for bowling shoes and gave it her best shot in front of the cameras. Between the near-misses and the glow of the alley, it was a side of the superstar fans do not always get to see: loose, silly, and having a ball with her people, with no choreographer and no stage in sight.

That is exactly why moments like this matter. Right now Ciara is one of the hardest-working women in R&B, with “Goodies,” “1, 2 Step,” and “Like a Boy” still in everybody’s rotation and a brand-new era loading. Seeing her crack up at her own bowling form reminds everybody that behind the superstar polish is a fun-loving Atlanta girl who does not take herself too seriously.

Press play on the video above and see how Ci Ci did, then tell us your high score in the comments. Keep scrolling to the gallery for a second angle of Ciara trying to bowl, plus a heartwarming look at Ciara helping make a wish come true. Work hard, play hard: that is the Ciara way!

Alabama State University Marching Band 2008 “Talking Out The Side Of Your Neck”

Football season is back, and everybody who knows HBCU culture knows the real showdown is at halftime. The Alabama State University Mighty Marching Hornets are bringing the noise for 2008, and FreddyO has the footage of the band breaking out Cameo’s classic “Talking Out The Side Of Your Neck.” From the first blast of the horns to the last step, this is that down-South band energy that turns a stadium all the way up.

Alabama State’s Hornets, out of Montgomery, have a reputation to protect every single weekend. In the SWAC, bands do not just play music, they compete: the drum majors, the dance line, the tubas dancing in the stands and arrangements that flip funk and soul records into marching band anthems. “Talking Out The Side Of Your Neck” is perfect for that treatment, all groove and attitude, and the Hornets lean into every note like they have something to prove.

With the Magic City Classic against Alabama A&M coming up on the calendar and bragging rights on the line all season long, performances like this are why HBCU band videos stay on repeat on YouTube. Fans who were not in the stands get to feel it, alumni get to relive it, and rival bands get a reminder of what is waiting for them across the field. Halftime is game time, and Alabama State understood the assignment.

Salute to the Mighty Marching Hornets for representing Alabama State and HBCU band culture the right way. Press play, turn it up loud and let us know in the comments which band you are riding with this season!

    Superhead Returns New Movie

Just when you thought she was done talking, she is back — and this time she is taking her story to the big screen. FreddyO caught up with Karrine Steffans, the author the whole hip-hop world knows by one name, and she has big news: a new movie is in the works. Love her or hate her, when this woman speaks, the entire industry stops and listens, and she knows it.

It has been three years since her first book shook up the entertainment world and landed on the bestseller lists, and a year since her follow-up diaries kept her name in everybody’s mouth. Radio hosts built whole segments around her, rappers got nervous, and readers lined up because nobody in hip-hop had ever told stories like hers in print. Now she is ready to bring that world — the videos, the parties, the behind-the-scenes life of a video vixen — to film, on her own terms.

That is the part people miss about Karrine: underneath all the controversy is a businesswoman who turned her own story into a brand when almost nobody else could have. She writes her books, she owns her name, and she has survived an industry that was not built to protect women like her. A movie is the natural next step, and if the books had the whole culture talking, just imagine what happens when those stories hit a screen.

Press play and hear what she has to say about the movie and what is next, in her own words. Then hit the comments: if her story really does become a film, who should play her — and will you be watching?

Karrine Steffans aka Superhead birthday bash

Birthday behavior! FreddyO was on the scene as Karrine Steffans celebrated her birthday with a bash full of friends, cameras and plenty of attention — because if there is one thing everybody in this industry has learned by now, it is that when Karrine walks into a room, the room pays attention. Fresh off a weekend of celebrating, the author and video vixen was all smiles, soaking up the love on her big night.

She has plenty to celebrate. Since her first book became a bestseller that had the whole hip-hop world talking, Karrine has turned herself into a brand — a second book, nonstop interviews, and now talk of a movie — all while her name stays in the conversation like almost nobody else’s. A birthday for Karrine is never just a birthday; it is an event, and the people who showed up to celebrate with her prove exactly where she stands in this culture right now.

What folks forget is how much work goes into surviving fame on your own terms. Karrine has taken the criticism, the jokes and the headlines, and she is still standing, still writing, still building. So a night like this — surrounded by people wishing her well, looking every bit the star of her own story — is exactly the kind of moment she has earned. Thirty looks good on her, and if her track record is any sign, the next chapter is already being written.

Press play and raise a glass with us inside the birthday bash, then drop your birthday wishes for Karrine in the comments. Love her or not — you cannot say she has not made this one interesting ride to watch.

  • Karrine Steffans Quits Being “Superhead” 30th Birthday Party

Karrine Steffans Quits Being “Superhead” 30th Birthday Party

End of an era? Karrine Steffans celebrated her 30th birthday in Atlanta with a party at JD’s nightclub, and she used the milestone to make a big announcement: she is done being ‘Superhead.’ FreddyO was in the building as Karrine addressed the crowd and let it be known that the nickname that made her famous is officially being retired. Turning 30 is a new chapter for everybody, and Karrine says she is ready to be known for much more than her past.

Karrine shook up the whole industry in 2005 with her bestselling memoir Confessions of a Video Vixen, which put her name — and plenty of other people’s names — in headlines everywhere. She followed it up with The Vixen Diaries last year, and her books have made her one of the most talked-about women in hip-hop, love her or hate her. The ‘Superhead’ name has followed her since her video vixen days, but Karrine insists that woman is in her past now.

The birthday bash brought out a crowd of Atlanta partygoers and industry folks to help her bring in the big 3-0, and Karrine was all smiles as she worked the room and took the mic. She was clear about what is next: more books, more business, and a future built on the Karrine Steffans name — not the one the streets gave her. Time will tell how the rebrand goes, but if her track record proves anything, she knows how to keep the people watching.

Happy 30th birthday to Karrine Steffans from FreddyO.com! Press play to hear her announcement in her own words, and let us know in the comments — can Superhead ever really retire?
