Rapper, actor and entrepreneur T.I. held his 19th annual turkey drive in Atlanta. Families lined up to get a turkey for Thanksgiving.
The Harris Community Works Turkey Drive took over Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Adamsville on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. More than 1,000 families drove through and left with turkeys, collard greens, sweet potatoes and other holiday staples.
This was a family affair. Tip was out there with Tiny and the Harris family, bagging groceries and loading cars right alongside the volunteers. His mother, Violeta Morgan, spoke to the crowd about keeping the drive growing year after year, nearly two decades in.
The city showed up too. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and City Councilmember Andrea L. Boone came out to help, and Young Dro and DC Young Fly rolled up their sleeves and worked the line. Some volunteers have been coming back for more than ten years.
The drive was backed by sponsors including the Atlanta Hawks, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, Norfolk Southern and the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority.
The Westside doesn’t forget who shows up for it every year, and T.I. keeps showing up.

Nearly Two Decades of Giving
Nineteen years is a long time to keep any tradition going, especially one that takes this much planning, money and manpower. That consistency is what makes the Harris turkey drive special. Families on the Westside know they can count on it every year.
T.I. has never forgotten where he came from, and events like this are a big reason Atlanta keeps showing him love. When artists invest in the neighborhoods that raised them, it inspires others to do the same.
Did you or someone you know get a turkey this year? Share a thank-you for the volunteers in the comments.
