Niecy Nash sat down with Oprah Winfrey and told the whole beautiful story of how her best friend became her wife — and she had Oprah cracking up the entire time. The actress opened up about falling for singer Jessica Betts, the woman she calls the most beautiful soul she has ever met in her life.
The two were friends for four and a half years first. Niecy was married, Jessica was in a relationship, and they never crossed a line — no lingering hugs, no funny business, none of that. Then came one night in New York, eating crabs and drinking wine, when everything changed. “My stomach got hot,” Niecy said. “I said, wait a minute — that only happens when I like boys.”

She tried to shake the feeling off. She invited Jessica back to her place to watch one of her favorite movies, hoping it would pass — it did not. “My stomach stayed hot the whole time,” she said. And at the door, a regular goodbye hug turned into a kiss she will never forget: “I kissed her and my tongue came out a little bit, Oprah.” Jessica looked at her and asked, “Want to go lay down?” Niecy’s answer is still sending us: “And I’ve been laying down ever since, girl.”
It was not all smooth sailing, though. Niecy admitted she ghosted Jessica at first, scared to death of ruining the friendship: “If I messed it up, I would never forgive myself.” Then Jessica called her one day and told her, “You can trust me.” Niecy said, “Come see me” — and from that point on, they have been together ever since. The couple just celebrated six years of marriage.

“I love boys until I didn’t, I guess,” Niecy laughed. Sometimes the love of your life has been sitting right across the table from you the whole time. Congratulations to Niecy and Jessica — six years down, forever to go.
