Some singers perform a song, and then there is Le’Andria Johnson, who takes a song and turns it into a full-body experience. FreddyO caught the gospel powerhouse live as she sang her new record “Bigger Than Me,” and when Le’Andria opens her mouth, everybody in the room stops what they are doing and listens, because that voice is a gift you simply cannot teach.
The timing could not be better. Le’Andria’s brand-new album, also called Bigger Than Me, has just arrived, and the title track carries the message she has been preaching through her music from day one: whatever you are facing, God is bigger than it. The song is part testify, part surrender, and all heart, building from a quiet, honest opening into the kind of soaring, church-raised climax that has become her signature since the world first met her on Sunday Best.
Ever since she won season three of BET’s Sunday Best in 2010, the Florida-born singer has done gospel her own way — raw, transparent and unafraid to sing about real life, the struggles included. That honesty is why her voice cuts so deep live. There are no studio tricks here, no autotune to lean on, just runs, growls and pure anointing as she works the room and makes every person in it feel like the song was written just for them.
