Dondria ‘You’re The One’ at NeNe Leakes 50th Birthday

Now this is how you celebrate a milestone! NeNe Leakes’ surprise 50th birthday party was already a night to remember — and then Dondria grabbed the mic. With Keke Wyatt and Sa’mira Lashay joining in, Dondria serenaded NeNe and her husband Gregg with her hit “You’re The One,” and FreddyO caught the whole sweet moment.

Dondria has one of those voices that stops a room. Ever since Jermaine Dupri discovered her singing online and signed her to So So Def, “You’re The One” has been THAT record — and hearing it live, up close and personal, sung straight to the birthday girl herself is a whole different experience. NeNe was living for every single second of it.

And let’s talk about the birthday girl! Fifty and fabulous is an understatement. NeNe has built an empire reaching from reality TV to the stage, and her friends and family came out in full force to give her all of her flowers. With Gregg right by her side and voices like Dondria’s and Keke Wyatt’s in the building, this surprise party was pure love from start to finish.

Happy birthday, NeNe! Press play, then check out more from the party in the videos above — Keke Wyatt had the whole room together with her performances of “Long As I Live” and “If Only You Knew.”

  • Jazmine Sullivan — ‘Forever Don’t Last’
    ,

Jazmine Sullivan — ‘Forever Don’t Last’

That voice is back, and it was missed. Jazmine Sullivan brought her powerhouse vocals to the stage for a live performance of ‘Forever Don’t Last,’ and if there was any question about whether she still has it, this settles it. Moments like this are exactly why fans begged her to come back to music.

The song comes from Reality Show, the new album Jazmine released at the top of the year, her first since she stepped away from the spotlight in 2011. The break clearly did her good. She said when she returned that she needed that time away to fall back in love with the music, and you can hear that love in every note of this project. The Philly songstress sounds renewed, and the album is earning praise as one of the strongest R&B releases of the year so far.

‘Forever Don’t Last’ shows the side of Jazmine that made us fall in love with her on ‘Need U Bad’ and ‘Lions, Tigers & Bears’: honest, vulnerable and real about love in a way very few singers dare to be. Live, she peels it all the way back, no big production needed, just a microphone and one of the most gifted voices of her generation.

Press play to watch Jazmine Sullivan perform ‘Forever Don’t Last’ live, and tell us in the comments: how happy are you that she is back?

Rick Ross Gives Kids Ride Around Atlanta

The biggest boss gave back in a big way! Rick Ross made some Atlanta kids’ day when he gave them a ride around the city in one of his luxury rides, and FreddyO caught the whole thing on camera. In the exclusive video, Rozay is all smiles as the young fans get the experience of a lifetime riding with one of the biggest names in hip hop, just days before Thanksgiving.

It has been a huge year for the Maybach Music Group founder. Ross already gave the streets his Mastermind album this spring, and his second album of the year, Hood Billionaire, hits stores tomorrow. He has also been putting down roots right here in Georgia, purchasing a massive Fayetteville mansion that has everybody in Atlanta talking, and his Wingstop restaurants and business moves keep him connected to the city he now calls a second home.

Anybody who follows Rozay knows his car collection is legendary, so for a kid, a seat in one of those machines with the boss himself behind the wheel is a story they will be telling for the rest of their lives. What stands out in the footage is how much Ross seems to enjoy it himself, laughing and joking with the young fans as they cruise the city. For all the boss talk on his records, moments like this show the side of Ross that gives back to the community coming up behind him.

Salute to Rick Ross for taking time out during a busy album week to make memories for the kids of Atlanta. With Hood Billionaire arriving tomorrow, the boss is closing out the year strong, on the charts and in the community. Press play and ride along with Rozay and his young co-pilots!

  • Monica Sing’s ‘God Bless America’
    ,

    Monica Sing’s ‘God Bless America’

When they hand Monica a microphone and ask her to honor this country, she does not play around. Atlanta’s own songbird stepped into the spotlight to sing “God Bless America,” and she delivered it with the power, the control and the church-bred soul that only she can bring. FreddyO was there to catch every single note.

This is what separates the singers from the sangers. There is no track to hide behind on a song like this — just a voice, a melody everybody in America knows, and a crowd waiting to feel something. Monica has been singing since she was a little girl in the church choir back in College Park, and you can hear every bit of that training and that testimony when she takes on a song this big.

Fans know Monica’s catalog runs deep — the hits, the heartbreak records, the grown-woman anthems — and these days she is balancing music, motherhood and marriage like the boss she is. Moments like this remind everybody that beyond the singles and the charts, the voice itself is the gift: pure, powerful and unmistakably hers. Very few of her peers could stand flat-footed and do what she does here.

Press play above and get your life from Monica singing “God Bless America.” Then tell us in the comments: on a scale of one to ten, how did our girl do with this one?

  • Phaedra Parks Shares The “Secrets of the Southern Belle” Book Signing

Phaedra Parks Shares The “Secrets of the Southern Belle” Book Signing

Nobody teaches Southern charm quite like Phaedra Parks. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star and attorney has put her famous rules for living like a true Southern Belle into her brand-new book, ‘Secrets of the Southern Belle,’ and she met her fans face to face at a book signing at the Books-A-Million at Sugarloaf Mills in Duluth, Georgia. FreddyO was there as Phaedra — polished, poised and pretty as ever — signed copies, took pictures and schooled everybody on grace, grits and getting what you want while keeping your pearls and your poise intact.

In the book, Phaedra lays out her rules of Belle behavior — how to be prepared for anything, how to present yourself, how to work hard, pray hard and look fabulous doing it. It is equal parts etiquette guide, comedy and real talk from a Georgia girl who built a career in the courtroom, on reality TV and everywhere in between. At the signing, she shared some of her favorite lessons with the crowd, including her first rule about always being prepared, delivered with that quick Phaedra wit that RHOA fans know and love. The line of supporters wrapped around with books in hand, and Phaedra took her time with every single one.

Between Housewives, her law practice, her funeral home business, two little boys and now author on her resume, Phaedra is proving that a Southern Belle can truly do it all — and do it in heels. Fans who showed up in Duluth got more than an autograph; they got a master class in confidence from a woman who lives her brand out loud. If you have not picked up your copy of ‘Secrets of the Southern Belle’ yet, get into it — class is officially in session, and Professor Parks is not playing with anybody.

Watch Phaedra work the room in our exclusive video above, browse the gallery below, and tell us your favorite Southern Belle rule in the comments.

  • Tiny Father Funeral Angelica Tucker “Soon I Will Be Done”
    ,

Tiny Father Funeral Angelica Tucker “Soon I Will Be Done”

FreddyO family, please keep Tiny Harris and her entire family lifted in prayer. Loved ones gathered to say farewell to Tiny’s father, Mr. Charles Pope, at his home going service, and it was a celebration of a life that touched so many people. In this moment from the service, Angelica Tucker ministers in song with the beloved gospel standard “Soon I Will Be Done,” and there was not a dry eye in the house.

Mr. Pope was no stranger to music himself — he was a member of The Tams, the legendary Atlanta group whose sound carried far beyond this city, so it is only fitting that his home going was filled with song. His daughter inherited that gift honestly. Tiny grew up in a house full of music, and long before Xscape, before the reality cameras, there was her father’s voice and her family’s faith setting the foundation for everything she would become.

With T.I. right by her side, Tiny has been surrounded by family, friends and fans sending love from everywhere. The Family Hustle has let the world into the Harris home, and anybody who watches knows how much family means to them. A father’s home going is one of the hardest days a daughter will ever face, and the strength of this family — standing together, worshipping together, grieving together — is on full display in this service.

Press play above and share in this moment of worship, and visit the gallery for more from the service, including KeKe Wyatt singing over this family. To Tiny, Tip and the whole Pope and Harris family: we love you, we are praying with you, and we know Mr. Pope’s legacy lives on in every one of you. Rest in peace, Mr. Pope.

  • KeKe Wyatt Live ‘When I See Jesus’ — Tiny’s Father’s Funeral
    ,

KeKe Wyatt Live ‘When I See Jesus’ — Tiny’s Father’s Funeral

Our hearts are heavy today. Family, friends and fans gathered to say a final farewell to Charles Pope — beloved father of Tameka “Tiny” Harris and a founding member of the legendary Atlanta group The Tams — and in one of the most moving moments of the homegoing service, KeKe Wyatt stood and sang “When I See Jesus” over the room.

Mr. Pope passed away on July 11 at the age of 76, after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Long before the world came to know his daughter as Tiny of Xscape, Charles Pope was making his own mark on music history with The Tams, the Atlanta vocal group behind timeless favorites like “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy” and “What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am).” Music was quite literally in this family’s blood.

That is what made KeKe’s tribute so fitting. KeKe and Tiny are sisters in song — both blessed with once-in-a-generation voices — and as she lifted “When I See Jesus” through the sanctuary, there was barely a dry eye to be found. Every note carried the promise at the heart of the song: that this goodbye is not the end, and that one sweet day, we will see our loved ones again.

Moments like this one remind us what the Atlanta music family is truly about. Behind the hits, the shows and the headlines, these are real families who show up for one another — and KeKe showed up in the best way she knows how, using the gift God gave her to comfort a grieving friend and honor a father’s memory.

FreddyO extends our deepest condolences to Tiny, to her mother Dianne, and to the entire Pope and Harris family. Mr. Pope, your voice helped build the soundtrack of a generation, and your legacy lives on in every song your family sings. Rest in peace. Press play above to witness KeKe’s beautiful tribute, and please keep this family lifted in your prayers.

  • Nae & Lo ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ Tribute Song To Lil Wayne From Reginae Carter
    ,

Nae & Lo ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ Tribute Song To Lil Wayne From Reginae Carter

Somebody pass the tissues, because this one is sweet enough to make the whole internet cry. Reginae Carter — Lil Wayne’s oldest child and his only daughter — has teamed up with her best friend Lourdes as the duo Nae & Lo, and their gift to Wayne is a tribute song called “Daddy’s Little Girl,” right on time for Father’s Day. FreddyO has the video, and it is pure love from start to finish.

Atlanta has watched Reginae grow up in front of the cameras. As Toya Wright’s daughter, she has been in the spotlight her whole life, and fans already know she can sing — this is a young lady raised around studios, stages and some of the biggest names in music. But this record is not about chasing a hit. Nae & Lo made “Daddy’s Little Girl” as a thank-you, a daughter telling one of the biggest rappers alive that before all the fame, he is first her father, her protector and her hero.

The timing could not be better. Wayne is still riding the wave of I Am Not a Human Being II and headlining the America’s Most Wanted tour this summer, but no plaque or sold-out arena is going to mean more than this. Anybody who follows Weezy knows Nae is his heart — he has rapped about his baby girl for years — so hearing her sing a tribute back to him, with her mama Toya’s love all around it, is a full-circle family moment.

Press play above and watch Nae & Lo honor Tunechi the sweetest way possible, then visit the gallery for more Reginae — talking internet fame with Zonnique and pulling up at the V103 Car & Bike Show. Happy Father’s Day to Wayne and to all the great dads out there. This is what it is all about.

  • Xscape ‘Who Can I Run To’ — Baby Shower FreddyO.com Exclusive

Xscape ‘Who Can I Run To’ — Baby Shower FreddyO.com Exclusive

Now this is how you do a baby shower! The ladies of Xscape gave one lucky mama-to-be a moment she will never forget, breaking out their classic ‘Who Can I Run To’ for an intimate performance that FreddyO caught exclusively on camera. No big stage, no pyro, just Atlanta’s finest voices in a room full of family and friends, and trust us, those harmonies are still as sharp as ever.

Xscape has been that group since they stepped on the scene out of Atlanta in the early ’90s with Just Kickin’ It, and ‘Who Can I Run To,’ their take on The Jones Girls’ favorite from the Off the Hook album, remains one of the songs fans scream for the loudest. Hearing Kandi, Tiny, LaTocha and Tamika blend on that record in such a close setting is a reminder of why R&B groups from the A set the standard. Every run, every note, pure church-raised, soul-drenched singing.

Of course the ladies have plenty going on individually these days. Kandi is holding it down on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and building her business empire, Tiny is starring alongside T.I. on The Family Hustle, and all four still get asked the same question everywhere they go: when is Xscape getting back together for real? Performances like this one only make the fans hungrier. If this baby shower set is any indication, the magic never left.

Salute to Xscape for making this celebration so special, and congratulations to the family on their new bundle of joy. Press play and enjoy this FreddyO.com exclusive, and let us know in the comments if you are ready for an official Xscape reunion!
