Atlanta does Halloween bigger than everybody, and the Real Housewives just proved it all over again. The ladies of RHOA pulled up to a Halloween party that doubled as a birthday celebration for Eva Marcille, and FreddyO was in the building to catch the costumes, the cake and all the side-eyes in between. When you put this cast in one room in full costume, you already know a good time, and maybe a little mess, is guaranteed.

Eva is the newest face in the RHOA mix this season, and the ladies wasted no time welcoming her to Atlanta the right way, with a birthday turn-up fit for a top model. The costumes did not disappoint either, because this cast treats Halloween like a red carpet, just with a little more fake blood. And underneath all the fun, it is still the Housewives, so every hug, toast and look across the room was doing double duty for the cameras.

The new season is shaping up to be one for the books, with old faces, new faces and plenty of unfinished business all colliding in the same city. If this party is any preview of the energy Eva is bringing to the group, the peaches are in very good hands. Fantasia Live — ‘Without Me’ in Atlanta at Derek Blanks’ 40th Birthday

Atlanta, it’s always a celebration when the city comes out for one of its own, and photographer extraordinaire Derek Blanks had the whole town talking as he celebrated his 40th birthday in style. The guest list was stacked, the energy was up all night, and just when the party couldn’t get any bigger, Fantasia took the stage and turned the birthday bash into a full-blown concert.

Rocking the mic like only she can, Fantasia tore into “Without Me,” her hit single from her Side Effects of You album, and had everybody in the room singing right along with her. The song, which features Kelly Rowland and Missy Elliott on the record, is all about knowing your worth and making sure nobody ever forgets it, and Tasia delivered every single note with that raw, church-bred power that has made her one of the most respected voices in R&B.

If you have ever seen Fantasia live, you already know she doesn’t just sing a song, she testifies. From the first run to the last big note, she had the birthday crowd on their feet with phones in the air, catching every moment. It’s performances like this that remind you why, more than a decade after winning American Idol, Fantasia Barrino is still in a class all by herself every time she steps in front of a microphone.

Nobody, and we mean nobody, works a stage like Fantasia. The American Idol champ brought her show to Atlanta and had the whole building in the palm of her hand, but the moment everybody is still talking about is when Tasia took us all the way back, breaking out the go-go classic ‘Da Butt’ and turning the concert into a party.

If you grew up on it, you already know: the E.U. record, made famous in Spike Lee’s School Daze, is one of those songs that can move any crowd, in any era. Tiny’s Family Throws Surprise Birthday

Tiny Harris walked in expecting a regular night with her loved ones and walked straight into a room full of family and friends shouting happy birthday, and FreddyO was right there to catch the whole thing. The Xscape singer could not stop smiling as the people who love her most packed the room to celebrate her big day the Atlanta way, with hugs, laughter and plenty of love.

The timing could not be sweeter. Tiny is in the middle of a huge summer, fresh off Xscape’s show-stopping reunion performance at the BET Awards and their big night at the Essence Festival, with the whole world finally getting to see all four ladies back on stage together. After a year of headlines about her marriage, a night surrounded by nothing but family love is exactly what the doctor ordered, and her crew made sure she felt every bit of it.

Granny Tries Patti LaBelle’s Peach Apple Cobbler

FreddyO brought home Patti LaBelle’s peach apple cobbler, one of the desserts carrying Ms. Patti’s name, and sat his granny down for a real taste test. And if you know Granny, you already know she was not about to hold back just because a legend’s name is on the box.

Patti LaBelle’s desserts have been the talk of family gatherings ever since her sweet potato pies started flying off store shelves, and a peach apple cobbler arrives with big expectations: a golden crust, sweet fruit, and the kind of homemade flavor Patti’s cooking has been famous for long before she ever sold a dessert. Granny approached it the way any Southern grandmother would — with respect for Patti, and complete loyalty to her own kitchen.
