    Nivea Live ‘Complicated’

Now this is a voice that never left! We are opening up the FreddyO vault and taking it back to 595 North in Atlanta, where Nivea hit the stage and delivered a live performance of her classic ‘Complicated’ that reminds everybody exactly why she was one of the leading ladies of 2000s R&B. No big production, no tricks, just Nivea, a microphone and that voice doing what it has always done.

‘Complicated’ is the title track of her 2005 album, and the ladies still know every word. This is the same Nivea who gave us ‘Don’t Mess with My Man,’ ‘Okay’ with YoungBloodZ and Lil Jon, and ‘Laundromat’ alongside R. Kelly, a run of records that kept her all over the radio and the countdowns. Watching her work a room like this, trading energy with an Atlanta crowd that grew up on her music, is pure nostalgia in the best way.

There is a whole generation of R&B girls who studied singers like Nivea, and moments like this one show why. The runs are effortless, the tone is unmistakable, and she performs like somebody who never stopped loving the music, even while she stepped back to raise her family. Atlanta has always claimed her as one of our own, and this room full of fans singing right back to her proves the love never went anywhere.

Press play and take it back with Nivea, then tell us in the comments which of her classics you still keep in rotation. Around here, ‘Complicated’ will always be that record.

Trina Braxton Talks Tamar Engagement, Fight & New Fiance

Congratulations are in order, but with the Braxtons there is always a little drama sprinkled on top! Trina Braxton sat down with FreddyO to talk about her engagement, the fight with her baby sister Tamar over how it all went down, and her new fiance Von Scales. One thing about these sisters, they are going to love hard, argue hard and keep it all the way real, and Trina is not sugarcoating any of it.

Trina has been glowing ever since Von put that ring on her finger, and the two have been taking fans along for the ride ever since he popped the question. But the road to the altar got bumpy fast when feelings got hurt between Trina and Tamar around the engagement, and the sisters’ fallout became the talk of everybody who follows Braxton Family Values. Trina opens up about where things stand, how the family handles their fights, and why this time she is protecting her happiness.

After everything this family has been through together, from the music, to the show, to losing loved ones and mending their bond in front of the whole world, the Braxton sisters always find their way back to each other. Between Toni, Towanda, Traci, Tamar and their mama Evelyn, this is one of the most famous sisterhoods on television, and Trina is right in the middle of it, planning a wedding and standing ten toes down in her joy.

Press play and hear Trina tell it in her own words, then tell us in the comments: whose side are you on, Trina’s or Tamar’s? Congratulations to Trina and Von, we cannot wait to see this wedding!

  • EPIC VOCALS – Monica Sing Whitney Houston Live

EPIC VOCALS – Monica Sing Whitney Houston Live

Somebody press record and stand back, because Monica just reminded everybody why her voice is one of the most respected in R&B! The Atlanta songstress took on the ultimate vocal challenge, singing Whitney Houston live, and FreddyO was there to catch every run, belt and goosebump in this exclusive video. Most singers would not dare touch a Whitney record in public, but Monica is not most singers, and she absolutely rose to the moment.

Whitney Houston is the standard, the Voice herself, and her catalog is sacred ground, especially those big soaring ballads that demand power, control and pure emotion all at once. Monica, a Grammy winner who grew up singing in church right here in Georgia, has clearly studied at that altar. Watch how she builds from a tender start to those full-throated high notes that had the crowd on its feet. That is not imitation, that is a student of the greats honoring her teacher.

The setting made it even more special. This all went down at the Bronner Brothers hair show, Atlanta’s legendary celebration of Black beauty, style and culture, where the biggest names in hair, fashion and music take over the city. Monica is Atlanta through and through, from College Park to the top of the charts with classics like ‘The Boy Is Mine,’ ‘Angel of Mine’ and ‘So Gone,’ so seeing her shut down a hometown stage just feels right. And with her new single ‘Commitment’ heating up and fans begging for the next album, Mo is reminding the world that real singing never goes out of style.

Salute to Monica for keeping Whitney’s legacy alive and for always repping the A with class, grace and those once-in-a-generation vocals. Press play, turn it all the way up, and let us know in the comments: did Monica do Whitney proud? We already know your answer!

EPIC VOCALS – Jennifer Hudson “And I Am Telling You”

When Jennifer Hudson opens her mouth to sing “And I Am Telling You,” you already know the whole room is about to shift! FreddyO caught J-Hud delivering the kind of performance that reminds everybody why she is one of the greatest voices of her generation, and if you have never heard her tear into this song live, prepare yourself for chills from the first note to the last.

The song became her signature the moment she embodied Effie White in “Dreamgirls” and carried that role all the way into Oscar history. All these years later, the power has not faded one bit. Every run, every growl, every tear-soaked crescendo lands like she is living the story in real time, and the crowd feels every ounce of it. This is not a cover; this is a masterclass.

What makes Jennifer special is that the gift is matched by the journey. From singing in church in Chicago to American Idol, to Broadway, to the big screen, her voice has carried her through triumph and heartbreak, and you can hear all of it when she sings. That is why a room full of people can go from shouting to completely silent in seconds when she reaches for those big notes.

Press play on the video above and turn it all the way up, then tell us where this performance ranks among her best. Keep scrolling to the gallery for more incredible live vocals, including Avery Wilson covering “Smile” and Dondria Nicole taking on Lauryn Hill classics. Singers, take notes: this is how you leave it all on the stage.

EPIC VOCALS — Avery Wilson Covers ‘Smile’ Live

Y’all, there are singers, and then there are SANGERS — and Avery Wilson just reminded everybody which one he is. The Voice alum sat down and delivered a live cover of the timeless classic “Smile” that will give you chills, and FreddyO has the exclusive video.

No big production, no tricks — just Avery, his gift and one of the most loved songs ever written. “Smile” has been sung by legends, from Nat King Cole to Michael Jackson, so anybody covering it knows they are stepping onto sacred ground. Avery does not just step — he soars, running up and down his range with the kind of control you cannot teach.

Atlanta first fell in love with Avery when he turned all four chairs on The Voice back in 2012 as a teenager, and he has been growing ever since, from the Broadway stage to his own music. What makes him special is that he sings with his whole heart — you do not just hear the notes, you feel every one of them.

Press play and see why we call this series EPIC VOCALS — because that is the only way to describe it. Share this with somebody who loves real singing, and tell me in the comments: is Avery Wilson one of the best voices of his generation?

Karlie Redd Calls Off Marriage, New Job, & Make’s Up With Althea Heart

Karlie Redd is not mincing words! The Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star sat down with FreddyO and spilled all the tea, revealing that she has called off her marriage plans, landed a new job, and even made peace with Althea Heart. If you know Karlie, you know her love life has played out like a movie right in front of our eyes, so this update has everybody talking. Press play and hear it straight from Karlie herself.

Fans watched Karlie get engaged to Arkansas Mo last summer in a moment that had the whole A buzzing, with the ring, the romance and talk of a big wedding to come. But as season eight of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta unfolds on VH1, it is clear that not everything behind the scenes was as picture perfect as it looked on camera. Karlie says she had to do what was best for her heart, her peace and her future, and she is standing ten toes down in that decision.

The good news is Karlie is not slowing down one bit. And in the biggest surprise of all, she reveals she and Althea Heart have finally squashed their longtime beef. These two have a history full of shade and showdowns, so a truce was the last thing anybody expected, but growth looks good on both of them.

Salute to Karlie for keeping it real with FreddyO, as always. Life, love, new money and new beginnings, she is writing her next chapter her way. Check out the interview, then let us know in the comments: are you surprised Karlie called it off, and are you here for this Karlie and Althea makeup?

Sheree Whitfield & Lisa Wu Talk Real Housewives Of Atlanta Drama

Now this is the conversation we have been waiting for! Two original peaches, Sheree Whitfield and Lisa Wu, linked up with FreddyO to talk all things Real Housewives of Atlanta — the drama, the shade, the friendships, and everything that goes down when the cameras are rolling, and when they stop. These two helped build the house that Atlanta reality TV lives in, so when they talk, everybody listens.

Sheree and Lisa go all the way back to the very beginning, season one, when a group of Atlanta ladies changed reality television forever. The ladies reflect on those early days, how the show has grown into a full-blown phenomenon, and how the drama fans see today compares to the shade they were throwing a decade ago — and yes, the bone collector herself still knows exactly how to check a situation, with class.

Of course, no conversation with these two is complete without getting into the current state of the group: the alliances, the fallouts, the reunions that leave social media in shambles, and what it really takes to hold your own among Atlanta’s most talked-about women. Lisa Wu brings her signature realness, Sheree brings the receipts, and together they remind everybody why the OGs will always matter in this franchise.

Whether you have been watching since day one or you just jumped on board, this is a must-see conversation with two women who earned their peaches the hard way. Press play on the video above, and keep scrolling for more FreddyO Housewives moments in the gallery below — from a new peach getting her welcome to the Halloween party Atlanta will never forget.

  • Gregg Leakes End Of Chemo Party
    ,

Gregg Leakes End Of Chemo Party

This is the kind of party Atlanta loves best — one with a real reason to celebrate. Gregg Leakes has finished his chemotherapy, and NeNe Leakes gathered family and close friends together to mark the moment with an end of chemo party filled with love, laughter and gratitude. FreddyO was there for the celebration, and the joy all through the room said everything that words could not.

Gregg’s health journey has been heavy on everybody who loves him. After he was diagnosed with colon cancer last year, fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta watched NeNe step into the role of caregiver while Gregg went through surgery and treatment, and the couple was honest about how hard the fight was on their whole family. That is what makes this night so sweet — this party is not about cameras or a storyline, it is about a man who kept fighting and a family that never stopped praying.

NeNe has stood right by her husband’s side through every appointment and every hard day, and seeing the two of them smiling, surrounded by people who have been rooting for them, is a blessing all by itself. Gregg has always been the calm, steady voice of reason in the Leakes household, the one everybody leans on, so it feels right that everybody showed up to pour that same love right back into him.

Press play above and step inside Gregg’s end of chemo celebration, then join us in sending him continued strength, healing and peace. Congratulations, Gregg — Atlanta is celebrating with you, and we are keeping you lifted in prayer for many more healthy, happy years ahead.

  • Momma Dee Live — ‘I Deserve’
    ,

Momma Dee Live — ‘I Deserve’

All hail the Queen of the Palace! Momma Dee took the stage in Atlanta and performed her song “I Deserve” live, and if anybody in Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta has earned the right to sing those words at the top of her lungs, it is Scrappy’s mama. Dressed to shut it down and backed by a crowd that knows every bit of her story, Momma Dee gave a performance full of heart, church and that signature fire only she carries. FreddyO was in the building with the cameras rolling.

People forget Momma Dee was singing long before reality TV found her. Long before the palace, the catchphrases and “In That Order” became everybody’s favorite clapback, she was a nurse, a pimp-game survivor and a woman with a real voice and a real testimony. “I Deserve” is her anthem about coming through everything life threw at her and finally collecting the love, respect and peace she is owed — and when she sings it live, you feel every year of that journey in her voice.

That is what makes this performance special. This is not a reality star playing singer for a storyline; this is a woman standing in her truth in front of her city, with her son’s legacy, her family drama and her faith all wrapped up in one song. The crowd was locked in from the first note, singing along and giving the Queen her flowers in person, exactly the way Atlanta is supposed to do it.

Press play and watch the Queen work, then give Momma Dee her props in the comments. After everything she has been through, one thing is clear: she deserves it all — in that order!
